FAQs

Q1 : What's the difference between CF,CCC and NAVI?

A: VCF is a student led and student funded organisation which means that although we are assigned staff workers from FES to advise us, they do no dictate our activities and we as students plan our own events and decide the direction of the ministry. Also, we raise our own funds for the activities we believe in. On the other hand, CCC is funded by a central head and staff workers have a much heavier role in dictating policy and running programs.

For small group meetings, VCF meets in groups that vary widely though groups in arts tend to be of around 10 people. In CCC, groups of not more than 6 ppl and are gender segregated. For the NAVI, the approach tends to emphasize one to one mentoring where a staff worker does bible studies with the student.

The different groups tend to be very similar and most differences are minimal and tend to be exaggerated. We are definitely not in competition and we all seek to glorify God. We encourage you to try out the various organisations and decide for yourself which style suits you best. While it is commonly said that CCC is more evangelistic focused, it should be noted that VCF does have many platforms to encourage evangelism like the International friendship group and Evangelistic bible studies to equip students to better reach out.

Mission & Vision
VCF: To make and build disciples of Jesus Christ who will be effective salt and light of the world on campus and in society.
CCC: To turn lost students in NUS into Christ-centered labourers for the world-wide harvest field.
Navigators: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through generations of labourers, living and discipling among the lost.

Q2) is it a once a week CCA?

A: CG (Contact Group) is held once a week. However, CG Members are encouraged to continue fellowship throughout the week with other members of the CG.

There are other standing committees like the international friendship group , which organises monthly events for international students. There are also FTs (fellowship teachings) held monthly where CFers from all the different facs and halls gather together for a time of worship and word as well as Sunset prayer every Tuesday.

It is not a once a week cca , it goes beyond a cca because it is the meeting together to encourage each other to live for god every day of thier lives.

Therefore, if we can catch on to the broader body of CF, then CF will not be limited to just once a week ie CG time...

3) I'm very busy in church. I can't commit to VCF.

A: Our purpose in life is to honour God and to know him and one good way of achieving that is to serve him in ministry. Thus, the important thing is not that you serve in any one particular ministry but that you are serving God in some capacity and learning through that experience.

That being said, student ministry is quite distinctive. Due to the amount of time you spend in school, the relationships formed with fellow VCFfers can be very special. In addition, once people enter the working world, the nature of friendships change and people's openness to the Gospel and to ideas in general is drastically reduced. Thus, this is really your golden opportunity to reach out to your friends and being a part of VCF will help you do that. See next section on how VCF can benefit you

If you are unable to commit to serving in the ministry, you are still welcome to join our CGs for support as well as the training we provide in life skills and Bible Study methods. We also organise regular talks, workshops and prayer and worship sessions that you can drop by when you are able to

4) How can VCF benefit me?

A: 1) Since VCF consists of university students, it provides an extremely non-threatening atmosphere to invite your friends to
2) VCF CGs provide fellowship, teaching and support through your uni life. Since your CG members are facing similar situations, they are able to understand what you will be going through and sometimes give advice on how best to manage and resolve the situation
3) Numerous talks, workshops and training in many skills such as Bible Study methods etc. These are specially selected to be relevant to university students and are given by a wide range of speakers from ex-VCFfers to foreign diplomats to current members of the Cabinet
4) Accountability in your life that church may not be able to provide. The sheer proximity of your fellow VCFfers helps to keep you accountable to and spur you on to greater righteousness

5)What are the different activities in VCF?

A: There are many activities in VCF. One such activity is the Contact Group meetings where Christians meet weekly in small groups to share about life and pray, as well as study the Bible. These groups can be formed based on the faculty or hall you are in.

Faculty wide activities occur during the semester including Faculty Gathering,

Monthly Fellowship teachings are held during which the body of CF comes together to have bible exposition or talks on topics deemed important by the Exco.

Talks by Christians in the workforce to help students prepare for the working world are routinely organised by Life Travel Planners, who deal with the after student life issues.

VCF also has activities planned such as MEET (for missions exposure), PRC orientation camp (to help Chinese students feel more welcome in NUS) and Anntic (for teaching)

VCF has certain programmes set up such as English Speaking corner to reach out to our PRC friends as well as Swordfighters which is meant to teach us how to study the Bible effectively

Furthermore, we have exam tea and smaller events. VCF is student initiated and led, so individual CGs can organise their own outings, retreats at their own leisure. So it is not just what activities that VCF has, but what activities that you guys can think of.
