Vision and Direction

VCF Vision: To make and build disciples of Jesus Christ who will be effective salt and light of the world on campus and in society.

(based on Mt 5:13-16)

Why do we need a Vision?

The Fellowship has, over the decades, expanded to such a degree that members often find themselves serving without knowing where the Fellowship is headed or what the Fellowship seeks to do through all her activities. This results in the loss of commitment to the ministry and the loss of a sense of mission in her members. The vision is the focal point of all the activities of the VCF and the Fellowship seeks to help her members fulfill the vision of the VCF through her activities. The vision is what holds all the diverse “arms” of the VCF ministry together.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? …You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl…” (Matthew 5:13-15, NIV)

These words of Jesus to His disciples nearly two thousand years ago were not only for them. They are also applicable to us, His 20th century disciples. Thus the VCF seeks to help all her members be effective salt and light on campus and later in society. Through participation in the ministries of VCF during their stay on campus, VCF hopes to challenge her members to emerge from the University as well-balanced, well-informed Christians capable of making decisions and behaving as mature Christians. Therefore in short, the vision is:

To make and build disciples of Jesus Christ who will be effective salt and light of the world on campus and in society.

Through her aims of Growth and Outreach (incorporating Evangelism and Missions), she seeks to help her members:

  • Be grounded in the fundamentals of the Christian faith
  • Develop Christian thinking and decision-making
  • Be equipped and inspired to be effective witnesses for Christ
  • Be exposed to the ministry of Social Outreach and Action
  • Be involved in the global mission field

Thus in the years that VCFers spend on campus, being involved in various ministries, VCF hopes that all her members will embrace the vision for themselves as Christ’s ambassadors on earth. Through this, it is hoped that members will graduate from the University with a firm grip of the Bible as the foundation of their thinking and decision-making, having grown deeper in their understanding of God’s Word, having grown closer to God, praying more fervently and selflessly, able to share their faith with their friends and strangers, able to disciple young Christians, able to defend their faith in the face of opposition and being active in missions.
