Workshops:

  • Dating on Campus?
  • A new beginning, a brand new start,
You wonder who will steal your heart.
You long for Mr.Right or Prince Charming,
    Or a blushing lovely darling.
But what does the Bible say of this?
Of asking out that lovely Christian miss?
    Or of pining, charming, waiting,
Can we even go out dating?
What we if shocked you and told you the plan,
Was for holiness not only your pleasure gland.
And that God's purpose amidst the love,
Is that we mirror Him up above?

Love and Romance is one aspect of life that everyone will at some point of time encounter and experience. That is no wonder given that God not only is the originator of Love but also gave mankind the beautiful gift of marriage and love. But the difficulty many Christians have is that while this is such an integral part of our lives, the Bible is not a handbook on dating or singlehood. Many good authors have tried to draw out biblical principles as guides on dating and singlehood. However, there are always many questions left unanswered.

The workshops aims to think and rethink some of the "Christian principles of dating" and for the speakers to share about the joys, challenges and temptations of being a single and being in a relationship. Convicted that God is more concerned with our holiness than our happiness, we shall examine the God-given opportunity to honour Him in and through a relationship or being a single. Each person comes with a story in their own single/dating experience. And the workshop is intended to allow us to see how each our stories reflect the utmost Story of God's Love and Romance.

  • Am I worth 10 cents, 20 cents or a dollar?
  • I am worth a blank check?

The focus of this workshop is to allow the participants to know that their self worth and identity is founded in God’s love for them. When freshmen enter university, a whole new set of challenges have to be faced because of the stark difference between the university and junior college environment. They have to get used to not having a fixed class, not seeing the same people constantly, learning to actively seek out new friends, adapting to a different pedagogy…. all these present challenges which may at times seem difficult, but the sufficiency that God provides through his overflowing love towards us is more than enough. More than enough when we feel inadequate intellectually or socially, more than enough when we have difficulty adapting, and more than enough in every single circumstance that we face.

Through this workshop, may there be greater revelation of what it is to “comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that [they] may be filled with all the fullness of God” - Eph 4:18

  • Intellectual Property
  • What is Intellectual property? Is it wrong to download illegal copies of copyrighted software or make illegal copies of books? As students, we are often faced with this moral dilema.

Whether be it for our own entertainment or for our schoolwork.

What we hope the workshop can achieve is to answer this questions, and how a true follower of Christ would tackle such situations.

  • Which race are you running?
  • It is undoubtedly true that the start to any race is very important; so too, it is with the start of your university life. Here, we seek to reconcile the two seemingly separate entities: God and studies. How can God REALLY be glorified by our lives on campus? Can we pursue academic excellence, and yet not forget our identity in Christ? Are we Christian students, or students, then Christians?

  • Outreach on Campus
  • The world is rapidly changing today and the sharing of the gospel has become more challenging than before.
In light of us living in a pluralistic society today, with many religions and ethnic groups in our midst, how are we to respond to such a culture?

In university where there will be more and more international students in our midst, how could outreach to them look like?
In a postmodern society where today’s generation has become wary of an authoritative truth, how would outreach look like?

What IS the gospel message? How would it be understood in the reality of our times today?

This workshop seeks to explore some of the questions above, as well as bringing to light our many assumptions and blindspots as Christians towards outreach.

  • Social Actions
  • Social Action is the engagement of social issues from a Christian perspective. It is not a form of community works, nor is it a platform for one to put forth political agendas. Social action deals with current affairs, as well as issues that are brought up on campus. In contemporary society, the Christian perspective on social issues is limited. The workshop thus aims to show the importance of social action on campus and the means by which one can engage in social action.

When Peter saw this, he said to them: "Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? Acts 3:12
