Even before SDE can talk about effectively reaching out to our non Christian friends in campus, my deepest desire is to see that all of us (current SDE members) start with ourselves. Many a times we start off well, but as the semester draw further, the projects and datelines weigh us down. As a result, the fervour, commitment and love in us seemingly diminish. I think it is important that we recognize who we are serving, and that all other priorities that should take their place under God.
With that established, our direction is to set the weekly cell session’s atmosphere and mood in a way such that when our non Christian friends join us, it will not seem intimidating and irrelevant. Rather than just having cell to minister to ourselves, we see the greater importance of the calling that ultimately, we are to do God’s work and bless others. The whole idea is to be flexible and yet effective when it comes to welcoming our potential to-be Christian friends.
The other aspect I see important for spiritual growth is to set in our hearts the deeper involvement in the various VCF ministries of our members. This is so that we will not be complacent and satisfied with just our weekly cell sessions, but to forge a greater understanding and love for the greater work God is calling us to do in VCF. We need prayer in this area as the nature of our faculty is very much project-based work. More often than not, time is taken away in the evenings by project meetings and lectures, disabling us to attend weekly VCF activities like Fellowship Teachings and Sunset Prayers.
With these directions, I think the fundamental question still goes back to us. That ultimately it is how we make time and commitment to God. Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in SDE that we will be hungry, earnest, and teachable in our hearts in our service to God
In His Service
